If you knew Warren Paul Glover when he was a young man, you would never have imagined the life he’s built for himself today.
Warren, the 237th person I’ve met on my quest to have lunch with 500 strangers, studied sociology at university before taking a series of research, communications and policy roles in his native UK.
And these days? Warren lives in Sydney, where he works as an actor (theatre, opera, film, TV commercials), screenwriter, poet, director and, most recently, model. He’s also attempting a novel.
Warren’s life changed when his wife, Simone Bouch, was offered a job in Scotland, and they moved from London to Edinburgh. Warren had to leave his job, so he decided to do a masters degree. But his studies weren’t starting for three months, so, to fill the time, he enrolled in short courses in screenwriting, poetry and short fiction. Immediately, Warren felt like he’d found his calling. As a result, he decided to cancel the masters degree and pursue a career in writing.
Someone asked Warren to write a screenplay for a short film, which he did. Then he was asked if he would direct the film too. That’s how he became a director.
Later, when Warren was living in Sydney, he decided to add acting to his repertoire. He’d performed the lead in ‘Joseph and His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat’ at school, and having experienced the difficulties of casting as a director, decided to revisit that old passion as well.
The big downside to working as a writer and actor is that your income can be unpredictable. So Warren has recently expanded his repertoire to include modelling, signing with a Sydney modelling agency.
If you’re thinking Warren must be smart, creative and a little suave, you’d be right. He’s also a free-thinker, because it takes a strong mind to give up a stable professional job in pursuit of a career in the performing arts. More importantly, Warren is a really nice guy and excellent company.
